Who was Magellan?

About Ferdinand Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan is famously known as the leader of the 15th century’s first expedition to circumnavigate the world. He was the first European to sail across the Pacific Ocean and discover a route by which ships could sail a complete circle around the world. The Straits of Magellan, located at the Southern tip of South America, are named after him.

Magellan is acknowledged for having achieved what is usually seen as the most difficult nautical feat of all times. His voyage brought the first evidence that the earth is round and the first good approximation for the distribution of land and water. Magellan’s trip is also seen as the first ever attempt of globalisation.
