1. Admissions Deadlines: rolling admissions from February, deadlines April 30, June 30

Starting February 2010, applicants to the Magellan Programme  can choose their preferred format and submit  their application on-line or mail the paper application to EGP-UPBS (paper copies available on campus on Rua Salazares 842).  We encouraged the applicants to apply early, use the on-line service, and meet the first admissions deadline on April 30th (1st Phase). The admissions process will continue through the spring and early summer till the deadline on June 30th (2nd Phase).

2. Eligibility

To be eligible to the programme, applicants must:
  • Hold an undergraduate degree from a recognised university
  • Be fluent in the English language
  • Possess at least three years of work experience as a minimum of three years of prior professional experience is considered essential for admission to, and successful completion of the MBA programme

3. Application Content

Your application process must contain the following documentation:

  • Application form with essays, personal information and curriculum vitae
  • Two reference letters
  • Official transcripts from all the universities attended, issued by the respective institutions, containing a breakdown of the grades achieved
  • GMAT - Graduate Management Admission Test Score (Institution code – EGP/University of Porto: 28ROR16)
  • Official Certificate of Proficiency in English (Institution code – EGP/University of Porto: 28ROR16)

4. Scolarships

The Magellan MBA Board offers six merit-based scholarships for applicants to the 2010/11 Magellan MBA programme. Interested candidates, especially non-Portuguese applicants from developing countries, will receive priority in the scholarship award consideration, and are encouraged to apply between February 1st and April 30th. The first four scholarships will be granted in the early spring, the remaining two by mid-July. Scholarships will cover up to 75% of tuition costs, and will not cover room and board. The following criteria will guide the Board in the selection of the scholarship recipients: acceptance to the programme, country of origin, GMAT score, and overall previous academic and professional performance. All accepted applicants are screened for the scholarship selection.

5.
References letters

Two reference letters are requested by the Admissions Committee, one from a faculty member familiar with the candidate’s academic career, and another by his or her manager or business associate familiar with the applicant's professional career and progress.  The admissions committee reserves the right to contact the referees for further clarification.

6. GMAT

The GMAT Test  may be taken at the Galileu training centre in Lisbon, or at the CESAE training centre in Porto, as well as at any other centre in the world. The test date is flexible, and may be scheduled by telephone. Please visit http://www.mba.com , the official GMAT web site, to learn more details. The GMAT score is one of various selection criteria used by the Admissions Committee, but selection is never based on this alone. A lower score does not automatically eliminate a candidate, but it is worth noting that the average GMAT is expected to exceed 600, as it did in the Magellan 2008/09 and 2009/10 Editions.

7. Proficiency in English

To verify proficiency in English, each applicant is required to take IELTS, TOEFL or other ESL (English as a Second Language)  test considered credible by the Admissions Committee. Foreign nationals whose native language is English or who graduated from universities where English is the language of instruction, are exempt from the English proficiency tests.

Please note that test results are integral parts of the application and need to be submitted in order for the application to be complete and ready for review.
