Application Details:

1. Admissions:

Applicants to the Magellan Programme should submit  their application on-line. We encouraged the applicants to apply early and using the on-line service.

2. Eligibility

To be eligible to the programme, applicants must

  • Hold a degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university
  • Be fluent in the English language
  • Possess at least three years of work experience
  • Provide a GMAT/GRE test score
  • Show evidence of financial sustainability during the full length of the MBA programme

3. Application Content

Your application process must contain the following documentation:

  • Online application with curriculum vitae, three essays, and two reference letters. The application fee is 50 €. (non-reimbursable)
  • Academic transcripts
  • Certificate of proficiency in the English language issued by TOEFL, IELTS and the British Council, American Language Institute, or other institution considered credible by the Magellan MBA Admissions Committee
  • Results of the GMAT/GRE
After review of submitted documentation, eligible candidates will be interviewed by The Magellan MBA Admissions Committee. The interview is mandatory to proceed in the application process.

Upon acceptance, each candidate must pay a deposit of 250 €. This deposit will be deducted from the full tuition payment due when the student registers to attend The Magellan MBA.

4. Selection Criteria

  • Previous academic performance
  • Professional experience
  • Personality and motivation (evaluated during the interview, and from the essays), based on interview and on the recommendation letters
  • GMAT/GRE score (Institution code EGP/University of Porto: 28ROR16)
  • Financial autonomy/sustainability

The GMAT/GRE score is an important element in each candidate’s evaluation process, but selection is never based on this alone. A lower score does not automatically eliminate a candidate, but it is worth noting that GMAT/GRE scores of students enrolled in past editions have frequently been around 600.

5. Scholarships

The Magellan MBA Board offers a limited number of scholarships. Interested candidates, especially non-Portuguese applicants from developing countries, will receive priority in the scholarship award consideration, and are encouraged to apply before the end of March not just to increase the chances of getting one of the scholarships available (covering from 25% up to 75% of  the programme fees). Scholarships do not cover room, board or travelling expenses.

The following criteria will guide the Admissions Committee in the selection of the scholarship recipients: acceptance to the programme, GMAT/GRE score, country of origin, previous academic and professional records, and financial situation. Interested candidates should fill in a scholarship request form with a motivation letter in order to be considered. Click here to download the scholarship request form.

6. Reference Letters

Two reference letters are requested by the Admissions Committee, one from a faculty member familiar with the candidate’s academic career, and another by his or her manager or business associate familiar with the applicant's professional career and progress.  The admissions committee reserves the right to contact the referees for further clarification.

7. GMAT and GRE

The GMAT Test  may be taken at the Galileu training centre in Lisbon, or at the CESAE training centre in Porto, as well as at any other centre in the world. The test date is flexible, and may be scheduled by telephone. Please visit http://www.mba.com , the official GMAT web site, to learn more details. The GMAT score is one of various selection criteria used by the Admissions Committee, but selection is never based on this alone. A lower score does not automatically eliminate a candidate, but it is worth noting that the average GMAT is expected to exceed 600.

The GRE Test may be taken at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, in Lisbon. The test date is flexible, and may be scheduled by telephone. Please visit http://www.ets.org/gre , the official GRE web site, to learn more details.

8. Proficiency in English

To verify proficiency in English, each applicant is required to take IELTS, TOEFL or other ESL (English as a Second Language)  test considered credible by the Admissions Committee. Foreign nationals whose native language is English or who graduated from universities where English is the language of instruction, are exempt from the English proficiency tests.

Please note that test results are integral parts of the application and need to be submitted in order for the application to be complete and ready for review.
